Anytime I think about Ogun state and indeed Nigeria, I'm left with the illusion that my beloved state and country can be great again.
The government of Ogun state offers a clear example of what misgovernance encompasses. The administration of Ibikunle Amosun under a "progressive" umbrella, instead of bringing succour, has brought in full force, a reign of cluelessness, visionlessness, spinelessness and insensitivity to the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of the state.
For sometime now, education (the bedrock of growth and development) in Ogun state has been experiencing a downturn, which is becoming shameful for a state once synonymous with academic excellence at all levels. As I write this, we're almost at par with educationally backward states of the North.
Now, building model colleges beyond the reach of ordinary citizens of the state is anti-people, self-serving and insensitive to the recent educational woes the state is currently faced with, evidenced by recurring, abysmal performances of our secondary school leavers in WASSCE and sundry examinations.
Having model colleges with state's funds at a time like this is not in our best interest. This policy is discriminatory to the teeming students of the state, majority of whom are from humble background. It's akin to robbing Pete to pay Paul; an ill-wind that will blow no one no good!
I want to encourage well-meaning Ogun state indigenes, across the globe, to rebuke this preposterous, ill-conceived policy of a clearly insensitive government of the state. We cannot continue to shoot in the dark and also hope for the best, because clearly, our silence can no longer be said to be golden. With people like Amosun in the saddle across our country, we're left with the Hobson's choice of sweeping out these retrogressive progressives come next general elections.
