Maljenstin Nigeria Limited, Chibuzo Patrick has described the 2014 Motivational
Awards as an award to celebrate people who through dint of hard work and
determination have excelled in relevant field of endeavor and also to pay
tribute to individuals and business entities in Nigeria. She was at YES
INTERNATIONAL! Magazine's office for a courtesy visit recently where she shared
her dreams about the award with GBENGA SHABA…
What is Motivational Award all about?
It
is a different kind of award that we are trying to bring up. It’s something
that will lived up to its name; Motivational. We are looking out for an avenue
to motivate people who had actually touched lives and done a whole lot of
things in different categories. So, they need to be a company or an individual
who had done and is still doing one good work or the other. They have been able
to established a whole lot of things that has affected people positively too.
Why are you coming up with a concept
like this at this time?
We
have looked at different awards been given to people because of what the
awardees intends to gain from them but we have not really seen people or
companies who have been doing a lot of things and nobody talks about them or
even appreciated their efforts. Some companies has been in Nigeria for almost
20 years supporting events, touching lives, promoting young generations and
doing other positive things. We need to look out for those people to give these
awards to so as to motivate them because they have been motivating people.
What is going to stand Motivational
Awards out of other awards?
It
is going to be given to people who have every opportunities and every reasons
to give excuses for failure probably because their school fees were not been
paid or other reason(s) but they looked beyond that, they worked hard and when
we talked about somebody like Yaw who sold pure water all around Lagos and
today people celebrate him. I don’t know if people are going to nominate him
but this are the people who could tell you that I worked through the miles
because I knew what I want to be. There are also companies that I know who had
every reasons to have been liquidated but today they are there employing over
1,000 workers. This is our focus not just because a name rings a bell we give
them awards but we want to do an in-depth analysis to really see those who
would be able to tell a story when they get this award.
What kind of in-depth analysis are you
going to do?
Whenyou looked at the categories of awards we have, you will see that we broke it
down to accommodate all; like personality, sports, academies and others, we
don’t even mind given an award to a LASTMA official. Do you know that if a
woman who is a road sweeper in Lagos diligently with the whole of her heart is
nominated she might win? She has nothing to offer us but we give her an award
to motivate her. This are the things that makes this award very special and
different from all the ones out there because you have a reason for receiving
it and people gets motivated through your actions.
How are you going to finance this award?
We
looked out for sponsors who won’t be winning an award. We opened a website, www.motivationalawards.com,
after nominations we look out for people who would buy into our noble vision
and support us to make it a success.
What plan do you have for this maiden
edition?
We
check for your background and what you have done or doing after you have been
nominated then voting will commence after which only those that have been voted
for will now win the award.
When and where is the event coming up?
The
event will come up on August
10, 2014, at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Festac, Lagos State. We
chose the place because of the calm, serene and nice environment and because it
is a symbol of Nigerian's greatness in arts. We would have lectures that will
tell a story of what our mission is based on and not just the conventional way
of telling a story. We are going to use projector screens to show the nominated
candidates and tell their stories so that people would be able to tell that the
winners deserved the awards given.
Why do you think people should attend
and support this initiative?
It
is the mission of Maljenstin Nigeria Limited, through this awards program to
encourage people to strive to become role models to one another. We believe if
parents do the needful, corporate organizations do business responsibly,
religious leaders practice what they preach, political administrators live by
their policies then we can be assured of a more secured future. The award
therefore, serves to acknowledge and pay tribute to individuals and pay tribute
to individuals and business entities in Nigeria. We believe if we all unite and
collectively fight the multi-dimensional phenomenon of poverty through the
instrumentality of support and encouragement, Nigeria will be a better place to
live and do business. We need to begin to maximize every opportunity to
encourage and empower people in Nigeria so that everyone can realize their
dreams and that is why we need supports to achieve our set goals.
